Slimming World asked its members to donate a purple bag of their unwanted clothes, shoes, crockery, books etc. These bags where then donated to their nearest Cancer Research UK charity shop to ‘re-cycle’ and re-sell back to the public to fund lifesaving Cancer research.
With each ‘Purple’ gift-aided bag being worth approx. £30 for Cancer Research UK, last time that this was done (pre-Covid) it raised a huge £3.3 million pounds!
This year the event is even bigger with the expected donation amount expected to exceed well over £5 million for the Charity.. but it’s also a lot of logistics to move thousands of ‘purple’ bags from various collection points to the nearest Cancer Research Charity Shops.
Several our staff regularly attend a Slimming World group, so, then why wouldn’t we want to offer both a logistics van and driver to help with the job?
Our nearest collection point was a yellow and blue ‘double-decker’ bus full to the brim with purple bags from Gosport Football Club to Gosport town centre, over 3-4 trips and in which we moved over 2,000 ‘purple’ bags.
Thanks go to Angela Elshaw for working with her local Slimming World to volunteer and co-ordinate the assistance from LINET UK to aid this community effort; and obvious thanks to ‘Tony’ for doing a fair amount of lifting and shifting to make this happen.
Good effort Slimming World & LINET UK…..
